Question 841021: A rectangle's length is 504 and 2/3 yards. The length is 6 yards shorter than twice the width. What is the area of the rectangle?
I have to make a table that uses guess and check. I've tried doing that, but I'm not very good with fractions. So, maybe you can make a table or give me a way to figure out this problem.

A rectangle's length is 504 and 2/3 yards.
The length is 6 yards shorter than twice the width.
L = 2w - 6
504 = 2W - 6
504 + 6 = 2W
510 = 2W
Divide 510 by 2; divide 2/3 by 2, resulting in:
255 is the width
:
What is the area of the rectangle?
Change to improper fractions:
504(3) + 2 = is length
255(3) + 1 = is the width
Area is length * width
* = = 128858 sq yds
(divide 9 into 1159724 using long division)
