A rectangle is 4times as long as it is wide. If it were 6 meters shorter and 6 meters wider, it would be a square. What are the dimensions? thanks very much.

Let the width be "x"
Then the length is "4x"

New dimensions:
width = x+6
length = 4x-6

Equation to solve for "x":
Assuming it is a square the width would equal the length::
x+6 = 4x-6
3x = 12
x = 4

width = x = 4 meters
length = 4x = 16 meters
