Question 837500: A rectangular painting measures 13 inches by 19 inches and contains a frame of uniform width around the four edges. The perimeter of the rectangle formed by the painting and its frame is 80 inches. Determine the width of the frame.
I found that the inner perimeter is 64
And I know (13+2x) and (19+2x) has something to do with the outer perimeter?

To solve this problem, you need to first find the perimeter of the painting, which you did. The perimeter of the painting is 64 inches. The word problem also says that the width of the frame is uniform, which means the frame has the same wideness all the way around. We are also told that with the frame, the perimeter is 80. So, to solve, first subtract 64 from 80, which will give us 16. This means that there is a total of 16 more inches when the frame is added to the picture. Since the width of the frame is the same all the way around the picture, and there are 4 sides to the frame, we divide 16 by 4, which gives us the width of each side of our frame: 4 inches. We can verify this by adding 4 inches to the length and width of each side of the actual picture: 13 + 4 + 13 + 4 + 19 + 4 + 19 + 4. Adding these together will give us 80 (80 inches).

Width of frame = 4 inches
