Find the length of a chord that is 8 inches from the center of a circle with a radius of 17 inches.
----------
Draw the circle; draw in the chord; draw a perpendicular bisector of the chord.
You should now have two right triangles.
The hypotenuse of one is 17 inches.
The length of half of the chord is 4 inches
The 3rd side of the triangle is sqrt(17^2-4^2)= 16.52 inches is
the distance of the chord from the center.
