Question 798999: I can't somehow understand this.
Question:
Consider a square room that has an area of 256 square feet.
The room has a tile floor. Each side has 24 square tiles. What is the length (in inches) of each tile?
What is the area of each tile?

Your room is a square. That means the measure of a side is the square root of the area. Since the area is in square feet, the measure of a side will be in feet. If some number of tiles fits into some number of feet, then each tile must be #feet/#tiles feet on each side. That fraction times 12 is the number of inches that a side of each square tile measures.
