Question 795236: two buses leave a terminal at the same time.one heads due east at 25kph and one heads due north at 40kph how far a part are two buses after two hours?

Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Right angled triangle.
Vertical side = Bus going North
Base side = Bus going East.
After 2 hours:
the bus going North will have driven 80 km
the bus going East will have driven 50 km
Distance between buses = Hypotenuse of triangle.
Vertical side^2 + Base side^2 = Hypotenuse^2
80^2 + 50^2 = Hypotenuse^2
Hypotenuse^2 = 8900
Hypotenuse =
Hypotenuse = 94.3 km.
This is how far apart the buses are.
Hope this helps.
