Question 770063: A rose garden is designed by joining a rectangle and a semicircle, as shown below. The rectangle is 21ft long and 15 ft wide. If the gardener wants to build a fence around the garden, how many feet of fence are required? (Use the value 3.14 for pi, and do not round your answer. Be sure to include the correct unit in your answer.)

You want the perimeter and you do not indicate which side the semicircle fits. I will remain general and use x and y for one rectangle direction and the other rectangle direction. I will arbitrarily assume the semicircle fits with diameter along x.

The perimeter is the sum of the semicircle curved length and the other three sides of the rectangle.

This perimeter is .
You must decide or know if x=21 or if x=15.
