Question 765378: An empty lot is 300 ft by 400ft. How many feet would you save by walking the diagonal of the lot instead of walking around (the perimeter) of the lot?
First find the diagonal distance of the lot and state what you did to find it. Then find out how many feet was saved by walking the diagonal instead of the perimeter of the lot.

To find diagonal use Pythagoras.
Diagonal = Hypotenuse.
So, 300^2 + 400^2 = Diagonal^2
250,000 = Diagonal^2
Diagonal =
Diagonal = 500ft.
Perimeter = 2*length + 2*width
Perimeter = 2(400) + 2(300)
Perimeter = 1400ft
1400ft - 500ft = 900ft
So you are saving 900 ft by
walking the diagonal.
Hope this helps.
