Question 764772: A rectangle is to be 2 m longer than it is wide and have an area of 399 m2. Find its dimensions.
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Width = x
Length = x + 2
Area = Length * Width
399 = (x + 2)*x
399 = x^2 + 2x
x^2 + 2x - 399 = 0
(x + 21)(x - 19) = 0
x + 21 = 0
x = - 21 (no answer x <0)
x - 19 = 0
x = 19
Width = 19m
Length = 21m
Hope this helps.
