Question 759147: a string 55 in. long is cut into 3 segmants. the first is twice as long as the second and the third is 5 inches less than the second
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = Second piece
2x = First piece
x - 5 = Third piece
x + (2x) + (x - 5) = 55
4x - 5 = 55
4x = 55 + 5
4x = 60
x = 15.
First piece = 2x = 30 inches
Second piece = x = 15 inches
Third piece = x - 5 = 10 inches
total = 55 inches
Hope this helps.
