Question 753183: The perimeter of a rectangle is four more than the area of the rectangle. Find the area of the rectangle, if its width is 1 cm.
Answer by malglu(63)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be the width and y the length
xy is the area
2x +2y is the perimeter
you are told that 2x+2y = xy+4 (the perimeter = area +4)
now change all the x to 1 (you are told the width is one)
2+2y = y+4
rearrange to get
y=2
so the area is 2cm squared (2 *1)
