Question 720879: can you help me answer this :)
Given; L1: 2x+4y-8=0 and L2: 2x+3y-16=0
A. Find the distance between L1 and L3: x+2y-4=0
B. What is the general equation of the line wit slope equal to 1/3 the slope of L2 and which passess through the intersection of L1 and L2?
C. What is the general equation of the line perpendicular to L1 and which passes through x-intercept of L2.
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Guidance for question #A:
Pick any point on L1. Find the line through this point and perpendicular to L1. The line found this way should be expected to intersect with line L3. Find this point of intersection, using whatever method you wish, since you'll work this with two simultaneous linear equations. Substitution, elimination, simple matrix, your choice which.
NOW, use the distance formula to find the distance between these two points.
