Three times the smaller number plus five times the larger number is 239.

Question states***

  y -  x = 67

 5y + 3x = 239    | multiplying 1st Eq by 3 and addinf to the 2nd to eliminate x

   8y = 239 + 201

   8y = 440

    y = 55   amd x  = -12
