The combined area of two squares is 2600 square inches.
Each side of one square is five times as long as a side of the other square.
Find the dimensions of each of the squares.
:
Let x = the side of the smaller square
then
5x = side of the larger
:
x^2 + (5x)^2 = 2600
x^2 + 25x^2 = 2600
26x^2 = 2600
x^2 = 2600/26
x^2 = 100
x =
x = 10 inches is the side of the small square
You can find out the side of the large square
