1.Why is -12 not a whole number?
The set of whole numbers is the set {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...}
Basically a whole number is either 0 or it is a positive number with no fraction or decimal part.

2.Why is there a need for negative numbers?
Negative numbers are useful for a lot of things. Examples include representing debt, showing relative position, and relative time.
Ex: -2 might represent $2 of debt.

3.What numbers are not classified as integers?
Fractions such as 1/2 or 6/11 are not integers because they are not whole numbers.
Also, numbers such as or aren't considered integers either for the same reason. These numbers are irrational numbers.
