Both Tony and Linda own canoes. The two canoes have exactly the same shape, and they are both made from the same material. Tony's canoe is 8ft long, and it weighs 96lb. If Linda's canoe is 14ft long, how much does it weigh?
==================
It's not completely clear, but it's implied that the 2 solid objects are similar.
-----
Volume of similar solid objects is a function of the cube of the dimensions.
--> mass = 96*(14/8)^3
= 514.5 lb
==================
If the thickness of the 2 canoes is the same, then it's a function of the square of the dimensions
--> mass = 96*(14/8)^2
= 294 pounds
================
Not a good problem, imo, tho I've seen worse.
Riding a bicycle upwind and downwind is one of the worst.
