Question 60317: The area of a rectangle is 104. Find the length and width if the length is 5 times greater than its width.
Answer by tutorcecilia(2152)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A=(Length)(width) [Use the formula for the area of a rectangle]
104=(5w)(w) [Plug-in the values that are given]
104=5w^2
104/5=w^2
20.8=w^2
sqrt(20.8=sqrt(w^2) [Find the square root of each side]
4.5607017=w (width)
(5)(4.5607017)=22.8035=l(length)
.
Check by plugging all of the values back into the original equation.
104=(4.5607)(22.8035)
104=103.9999 [Close enough]
