In a right triangle, the sides are related by pythagorean theorem, c^ =a^ + b^, where "c" is the hypotenuse. Find the hypotenuse when the other two sides' measurements are 6ft. and 8ft.
The hypotenuse is the side opposite the 90 degree angle.... but still confused.

a^2+b^2=c^2 [Pythagorean Theorem]
6^2+8^2=c^2 [Plug-in the values]
36+64=c^2 [Simplify]
100=c^2 [Take the square root of each side to find the value of just "c"]
sqrt(100)=sqrt(c^2)
10=c
.
Check by plugging all of the values for a, b, and c back into the formula.

a=6 and b=8 (It doesn't matter which leg you pick to be a and which you pick to be b. The only thing that matters is that the hypotenuse is c).

Because this is a dimension, ignore the -.

The hypotenuse is 10 ft.
