Question 56759: I'm not sure if I'm going about answering this algabraic question right or not. If you could please let me know whether or not I'm on the right track that would be greatly appreciated. The question is as follows:
The length of a rectangle is 10cm more than twice the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 66cm. FInd the length and width.
This is what I'm doing to solve:
Let x = width
10+2x = length
2(length+width)= Perimeter
solving with this beginning:
x + (10+2x)= 66
Is this the correct procedure to getting my answer or have I forgotten something?

This is what I'm doing to solve:
Let x = width
10+2x = length
2(length+width)= Perimeter
solving with this beginning:
2(x + (10+2x))= 66 <---You forgot your 2.
2(3x+10)=66
6x+20=66
6x+20-20=66-20
6x=46
6x/6=46/6
x=7.6667 cm
Width=7.6667 cm
length=10+2x=10+2(7.6667)=25.33333 cm
