Question 499791: a rectangular plot of land is to be used for a garden. 270 feet of fencing is to be used to enclos garden. what should demensions of garden be if length is twice as long as the width?
im not sure how to set up the equation to solve
Answer by Flannery(124) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let P=perimeter
Let L=length
Let w=width
Peremiter is 270
Twice length plus twice width is perimeter (P=2L+2W)
Solve for W becouse we know L in terms of W
P=4W+2W (because 2W = L for length and twice 2W is 4W)
270=4W+2W
270=6W
W is 45
P is 2L plus 2W
L is 2W
2W is 90
Twice 90 plus twice 45 is twice the length plus twice the width.
180 plus 90 is the perimiter.
180 plus 90 is 270
