1) A rectangular storage unit has dimensions of : 1m by 2m by 3m.
If each linear dimension is increased by the same amount.
Old Volume 1*2*3 = 6 cubic meters
New VOlume (x+1)(x+2)(x+3) cubic meters
-----
a) What increase would result in a new storage unit with a volume of 10 times the orginal?
Solve (x+1)(x+2)(x+3) = 10*6
I graphed the left side and the right side separately
and found the x-value of the point of intersection.
Ans: x = 2
------------
b) How many possible solutions are there to this problem?
Ans: One Real Number answer.
------------
c) Sketch the graph of the information presented in this problem.
Show how the zeros of the function relate to the answer.
Graph: (x+1)(x+2)(x+3)-60 = y
x=2 is the only Real Number zero.
