What you are probably getting at here is a concept called a "Sample Space." It is the set of all possible outcomes, with no overlap and nothing left out.
Give a sample space for a real estate salesman who is selling one of three homes to a family. The choices would be { House #1, House $2, House #3, No Sale}. This would assume that the family is not going to buy TWO houses!
