Lisa is flying her kite with 62 feet of string attached to the ground. She measures 5feet of string from the ground to a point 4 feet high. How high is her kite?

If you draw a triangle for the case where she actually mesures the height, you would get a triangle with hypotenuse 5ft and height 4ft.
The next step may sound confucing, but see if it makes sense. I'm assuming your vertex is at the left and the right angle at the right. Extend both the hypotenuse and the base, till the hypotenuse represents a total of 62ft. Complete the bigger triangle. What you have now is 2 triangles with the vertex to be the same, the smaller one being 'inside' the bigger one. Let the kite be 'x' ft off the ground. Using the principles of similar triangles, you can equate ratio's as below

solve for x, and you get 49.6ft

5 FEET LENGTH TO 4 FEET HEIGHT..THIS RATIO IS SAME FOR THE FULL LENGTH OF STRING
HENCE HEIGHT OF KITE = 62*4/5=248/5=49.6 FEET.
