Question 339283: How do you calculate the total square inches of a box given the dimensions: 8 inches wide-12 inches long and 6 inches high. According to my textbook the answer is 336 square inches.
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The box has 6 faces.
2 are 8 by 12 --> 192
2 are 8 by 6 --> 96
2 are 6 by 12 --> 144
-------------
192 + 96 + 144 = 432 sq inches
If it has no lid (8 by 12) it would be 336. Otherwise, the book is wrong.
