Question 326997: The width of a rectangle is 9 inches less than its lenght. If the area of the rectangle is 322 square inches what is its width?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let length be x inches
width will be x-9 inches
area = 322 sq. in
Area = L*W
x(x-9)=322
add-322 to both sides
(x-23)(x+!4)=0
x=23 OR -14
ignore the negative value
length = 14 inches
width = 14-9=5 inches
