Question 311649: Explain using words how you would set up let statements and write an equation to solve the following word problem. “The length of the skating rink is 7 less than 3 times the width. If the perimeter of the skating rink is 82 feet, find the length and width of the skating rink." You do not need to solve this problem.
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
“The length of the skating rink is 7 less than 3 times the width. If the perimeter of the skating rink is 82 feet, find the length and width of the skating rink."
--------------------------
P = 2(L+W)
82 = 2((3W-7)+W)
41 = 4W-7
4W = 48
W = 12 feet(width)
---
L = 3W-7 = 36-7 = 29 feet (length)
