Here we will make use of the Pythagoras Theorem which states
Hypotenuse = √(Base^2 + Perpendicular^2)
In this question:
Length of the Pole = Perpendicular = 13 m
The distance from the base of the pole to where the wire meets= Base = 9
The wire itself = Hypotenuse
Therefore the length of the wire is:
√(Base^2 + Perpendicular^2)
= √(9^2 + 13^2)
= √(81 + 169)
= √(250)
= 5√ 10
~ 15.81m
