Question 303575: a jet flying in a direction N 20 E with a speed of 500 mi/h. Find the north and east components of the velocity.
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
north 20 degrees means he is traveling 20 degrees east of north.
he is traveling at 500 miles per hour, so the length of the vector is 500 miles per hour.
you have a triangle that has a 20 degree angle where north is the adjacent side and east is the opposite side.
the north component is 469.85 miles per hour.
the east component is 171.01 miles per hour.
these answers are rounded to the nearest hundredth of a mile per hour.
the following picture shows you what I mean and how the components were calculated.
