Question 291323: Using the Pythagorean Theoreum if necessary The area of a rectangular floor is 105 square feet. Its length is 1 foot more than twice the widith. Find the length and the widith of the floor.
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Area=LW
L=2W+1
105=(2W+1)W
105=2W^2+W
2W^2+W-105=0
(2W+15)(W-7)=0
2W+15=0
2W=-15
W=-15/2
W=-7.5 ANS.
L=2(-7.5)+1
L=-15+1
L=-14 ANS.
-----------
W-7=0
W=7 ANS.
L=(2*7+1)
L=14+1
L=15 ANS.
