In a pair of supplementary angles, one angle measures 24 degrees more than twice the other angle. Find the measure of each angle.
:
Let x = "other angle"
:
The pair is supplementary, so they add up to 180, therefore
(180-x) = one angle
:
It says,"one angle measures 24 degrees more than twice the other angle."
therefore we can write it like this and solve for x:
(180-x) = 2x + 24
180 - 24 = 2x + x
156 = 3x
x =
x = 52 degrees is the other angle
then
180 - 52 = 128 degrees is "one angle"
:
:
See if this is true in the statement:
"one angle measures 24 degrees more than twice the other angle.
128 = 2(52) + 24
128 = 104 + 24; confirms our solutions here
