The formula for the equation to the stline joining two given pts
The equation of the straight line joining two given points A(x1,y1) and B(x2,y2) is given by
(y- y1)/(y1- y2) = (x- x1)/(x1- x2)
Applying the above formula to the stline joining A(4,-2) and C(3,0)
we have (y-(-2))/[(-2)-0] = (x-4)/(4-3) (where x1=4, y1=-2 and x2=3, y1=0)
That is (y+2)/(-2) = (x-4)/1
That is (y+2) X 1 = (-2) X (x-4) (cross multiplication)
(y+2) = -2x +8
That is 2x +y +2-8 = 0 (Transposing, change side than change sign)
2x+ y -6 = 0
Answer: The required line is 2x + y - 6 = 0
Verification:
Testing for A(4,-2) in the answer, (putting x=4, y=-2)
LHS = 2X4 -2 -6 = 8-8 =0 =RHS
Testing for C(3,0) in the answer, (putting x=3, y=0)
LHS = 2X3 +0 -6 = 6-6 =0 =RHS
Therefore both the given points satisfy the equation that we have got. Hence we are right.
