The right triangle formed by the tree and its shadow is SIMILAR to the triangle formed by the flag and its shadow so the corresponding sides are proportional. If x is the height of the flag then we have:
12/1.25 = x/2.833
Solving for x we have:
x = 2.0833*(12/1.25)
x = 20
