Length of the remaining piece = 8 4/5 - 1 1/3
= 8-1+4/5-1/3
=7+(12-5)/15
=7 7/15

Hello,
Here's a hint when adding and subtracting fractions. (Both denominators need to be the same)
8 4/5-1 1/3 Getting these denominators the same will be:
8 12/15 - 1 5/15=
7 7/15 feet.
Make sense?
