Question 264089: A rectangle has a perimeter of 15.4cm and an area of 14.4cm squared. Find the dimensions of the rectangle?
Answer by Greenfinch(383) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Length + width is 7.7 cm
If length is X, width is 7.7 - X
Area is thus X(7.7 - X) = 14.4
-X^2 + 7.7X - 14.4 = 0 change signs
X^2 - 7.7X + 14.4 = 0
X =( 7.7 + sqrt( 7.7^2 - 4x14.4))/2
X = (7.7 + 1.3)/2 and (7.7 - 1.3)/2
X= 9/2 and 6.4/2
X= 4.5 and 3.2 cm
