The problem you have posed here has a slightly more complex drawing since your goat has enough rope to get all the way around to the other side of the barn. But the concept is the same. Also, making this particular manifestation of the problem actually easier, your goat is tethered at the midpoint of the barn so your diagram will be symmetrical. Done properly, all you will need to do is calculate the area of three different-sized semicircles and then sum the three areas. By the way, you will need to assume that any doors into the barn are closed.
