Question 224727: Here is a word problem I am not sure how to solve:
A vertical pole is to be supported by three wires. Each wire is 13 yards long and is anchored 5 yards from the base of the pole. How far up the poles will the wires be attached?
Here is how I have tried approaching it:
I drew a vertical line and then 3 more lines to form a square. after this I drew a diagonal line cutting through the square. Am I going in the right direction? What to do I have to do to finish the problem and get the answer? Thank you!

You don't need a square. Draw a vertical line for the pole, then a point 5 yards from the base. The wire goes from that point to the pole, and it's 13 yds long. 13 is the hypotenuse of a right triangle.
