The perimeter of a triangle is 17. One side is 1 inch shorter than the longest and 1 inch longer than the shortest. What are the dimensions?
-----------------------------------------
Let the longest be "x".
A second side is "x-1"
The shortest side is "x-2"
--------------------------------
Equation:
x + x-1 + x-2 = 17
3x -3 = 17
3x = 20
x = 20/3 inches (longest side)
x-1 = 17/3 inches (2nd side)
x-2 = 14/3 inches (shortest side
