Question 203930: Could you help me to solve and understand this one?
Water is flowing through a cylindrical pipe of radius 1,5 cm at the rate of 1 m^3 every 4 min. At what speed is the water moving in the pipe in cm/s?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(1 m3/4 min)(100 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm/m3)(1 min/60 sec)
which equals
(1 m3/4 min)(10^6 cm3/m3)(1 min/60 sec)
note that min cancel and m3 cancel, so for units,
I'm left with (cm3/sec)
Doing the math:
Now the question to ask is: what length of pipe in cm of
radius 1.5 cm passes this volume of water in 1 sec?
The cross-sectional area of the pipe is:
Let = length of pipe needed
The speed of the water through the pipe is 589.461 cm/s
(unless I goofed)
