Question 203354: Bear population. To estimate the size of the bear
population on the Keweenaw Peninsula, conservationists
captured, tagged, and released 50 bears. One year later, a
random sample of 100 bears included only 2 tagged bears.
What is the conservationist’s estimate of the size of the
bear population?
I think the ratio is something like 50 to 2 but when I try to work this out
it does not make sense.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
they sampled 100 bears and found 2 tagged ones
this means that they sampled 2/50 of the tagged population,
and by extension, 2/50 of the entire population
if 2/50 of the population is 100, then the population is 100/(2/50) or 2500
