Question 197128: The base of a triangle is 2cm shorter than the width of a rectangle. The rectangle's length is 4 times the width and the triangle's height is twice the rectangle's length. Find the area of each figure if the difference of their areas is 30m^2.

Let w=width of the rectangle.
base of triangle=w-2
length of rectangle=4w
height of triangle=8w
Area of rectangle=4w^2
area of triangle=8w(w-2)/2
=4w^2-8w which is smaller than the area of the rectangle.
4w^2-(4w^2-8w)=30
4w^2-4w^2+8w=30
8w=30
.
w=3.75
4w=15
15*3.75=56.25m^2 area of rectangle.
.
8w=30
w-2=1.75
30*1.75/2=26.25m^2 area of triangle
