let the side of one square be x,and the other have side y


area of first square:
area of second square:


acc to the question,
"The combined are of two squares is 26 square meters."


now look at the question,
"The sides of the larger square are five times as long as the sides of the smaller squarer."
so that means,
x=5y


substitute this value in the first equation:





y=1


x=5y=5(1)=5


x=5,y=1 (metres)
