Find an expression for the area of a square with the given perimeter. P=12x+20y in.
P = 2L + 2W
therefore
L = 6x and W = 10y
:
Area = L*W
A = 6x * 10y
A = 60xy
:
Since it is a square, we know 6x = 10y
Therefore
A = 36x^2
or
A = 100y^2
