Question 159584: Would you please help me solve this problem.
It is in regards to indirect measurement.
I need to find the height of a flagpole.
There is a person who is 5'.9" tall. His shadow is 12'. The shadow of the flagpole is 30'. I have to find the height of the flag pole. Do I convert everything to inches? 12/30 = 5'.9"/x
or do I do 144/360 = 69/x? (This is a conversion of feet into inches). Every answer I come up with does not make sense.
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Yes, first feet and inches to inches.
You can keep feet over inches as long as you're consistent on both sides.
12 feet is to 69 inches as 30 feet is to x inches.
The flagpole is 172.5 inches tall or 14' 4.5" tall.
