The length of a rectangle is 3 times the width. The perimenter is 96 cm. Find the width and the length.
I know that P= 2(L+W). But I can't figure out the correct equation to get the length and width.

But, L=3W, 3 times the width

"The length of a rectangle is 3 times the width" __ L=3W

just substitute into your perimeter equation __ P = 2(3W+W) __ 96 = 8W __ 12=W

L=3W __ L=3(12) __ L=36
