Question 15094: Find the dimensions of a rectangle whose perimeter is 578 cm if the ratio of length to width is 9 : 8.
Answer by bam878s(77) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
we know perimeter is the sum of the 2 lenghts plus the sum of the two widths.
We know 2(9)x + 2(8)x = 578.
18x + 16x = 578.
34x = 578
x = 17
so the length is 9*17 = 153
and the width is 8*17 = 136
Note: =
and 153*2 + 136*2 = 578 just like we wanted
