Question 142296: Hello, I am wondering if anyone can tell me if I am in the right direction for answering the following problem.
On a sunny day a flag pole and its shadow form the sides of a right triangle. If the hypotenuse is 35m long and the shadow is 28m how tall is the flag pole.
I have A^2 + 28^2 = square root of 35^2
A^2 + 784 = 35
A^2 = 35-784
A^2 = -749
A^2 = 27.37 meter is what the folow pole is.
I am doing a unit on different types of square and nth root applications and ths is my first time learning such items ( I am in my 40's!!) so any help is appreciated. Thank you.

On a sunny day a flag pole and its shadow form the sides of a right triangle. If the hypotenuse is 35m long and the shadow is 28m how tall is the flag pole.
----------------------
I have A^2 + 28^2 = 35^2
A^2 = 35^2 - 28^2
A^2 = 441
A = 21 meters

I have A^2 + 28^2 = square root of 35^2 IS WRONG
CORRECT IS: A^2 + 28^2 = 35^2
then A^2 + 784 = 1225
A^2 = 1225 - 784
A^2 = 441
A=square root of =21
Answer: the flag is 28m tall
