You have  (30°-60°-90°) right angled triangle.


Its hypotenuse is c = 40 ft (given).


Its longer leg is   =  ft.   Use your calculator to get the value.


Its shorter leg is  half the hypotenuse, i.e. 40/2 = 20 ft.

The words describe a 30-60-90 right triangle with the kite string the hypotenuse, the height of the kite the long leg, and the distance from the stake to the place the kite would land if it fell the short leg.

Use the well-known relationships between the lengths of the sides:
The short leg is half the length of the hypotenuse
The long leg is square root of 3 times the short leg
