When considering the walkway, we add on 3+3 = 6 feet for each dimension of the square.
The x by x square bumps up to (x+6) by (x+6)
The larger square has area of
(x+6)^2
(x+6)*(x+6)
x(x+6)+6(x+6)
x^2+6x+6x+36
x^2+12x+36
Set this area expression equal to the desired area (18,000) and solve for x.
x^2+12x+36 = 18,000
