Given the vertices of a triangle are P (3,7), Q(-8,2) and R(-4,-9). Determine the equation of the altitude that passes through the point P.
Slope of QR = m= (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(-9-2)/(-4-(-8)) = -11/4
The slope of the altitude will be 4/11 ( negative reciprocal because the lines are perpendicular)
P(3,7) slope = 4/11
Plug value of the slope and point ( 3 , 7 ) in
Y = m x + b
7.00 = 1 + b
b= 7.00 - 1 1/11
b= 5 10/11
So the equation will be
Y = 4/11 x + 5 (10/11)
