Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
THE TANK HAS A VOLUME OF 1*2*3=6 FT^3
THE CUBE=.5*.5*.5=.125 FT^3
THUS THE AVAILABLE VOLUME FOR WATER IS:
6-.125=5.875 FT^3 OF WATER TO FILL THE TANK.

Originally the tank had a volume of 6 (1 ft x 2 ft x 3 ft) cubic feet.
The metal cube takes up 1/8 (1/2 ft x 1/2 ft x 1/2 ft) cubic feet.
The tank can now hold 5 7/8 (6-1/8) cubic feet.
